Day 6: A New York Literary Christmas

This year the Berg Collection is providing once again their Literary Christmas Miscellany at the New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. This is just one of many exhibitions that the NYPL is providing space for to showcase works that will 'further its mission'.

If I was in NYC this Christmas, I'd steal two seconds away from the mince pies (and that's a big deal) to take in this exhibition, which has a number of exciting artifacts on display. Features include the prompt copy of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, which he used when giving public readings, a book with a Christmas theme by T.S. Eliot, Christmas greetings by James Joyce, Sean O'Casey, E.E. Cummings and the late Maurice Sendak. Another fantastic article they have is a Christmas letter from Jack Kerouac to Stella Sampas, who would become his third wife. This exhibition is showing now until January 6, 2013.

If you aren't lucky enough to be in New York but, like me, are in London, then maybe pop in to the British Library where Jack Kerouac's manuscript roll for On the Road is currently being welcomed.
