Day 8: Fortnum's Christmas Storytelling

There aren't many better places to be in the lead up to Christmas than Central London. Last minute Christmas shopping on Carnaby Street, the Regent Street lights, Santa's Grotto at Harrods, homemade wreaths in Covent Garden - the list goes on. One of the most iconic places to be in London at any time of year, though, is Fortnum and Mason, a favourite source of delicious food for royals all over the world.

This Christmas they are stepping up to the plate (forgive the pun) with a range of winter events but the one that grabbed me was, naturally, their Christmas storytelling weekend. This year's story is Dick Whittington and his cat, the well-known English folk tale that regularly takes over pantomimes nationwide. Basically a poor boy with a cat goes to London in search of his fortune and ends up becoming Lord Mayor because his cat is a super mouse-catching whiz.
Apparently the real Mr Whittington wasn't poor and didn't have a cat... seems like the tabloid press have been making up stories for centuries...

Anyway, if you know any kids that you can steal as an excuse to pop along to what sounds like an adorable little storytelling sesh, tickets are
£20 per child, each must be accompanied by an adult at all times with a limit of 2 adults per order, and you can book by calling 0845 602 5694. The choice of dates are:

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December
Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December
Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd December

If you're hungry when making this booking (as I find I always tend to be), then probs best avoid the Christmas hamper page on the website...
